The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand,
as in what direction we are moving.”
– Oliver Wendell Holmes
Do you ever feel like you are in the same place that have been for a long time and really want to make a change? What is it that keeps us in this same place that we are unsatisfied to be? What will it take to make any kind of change?
Welcome, you are in what is called a comfort zone. It is comfortable, like an old pair of jeans. In your comfort zone you can complain about the unfairness of the situation that you are in, you can feel bad, maybe even feel as if the world has dealt you an unfair hand. Doing something that can change this can be at times scarey. What will it mean if I make a change?
Moving forward can be very simple – one step at a time. Try asking yourself these questions:
What area in your life would you like to make a change in? For example, you would like to have time for yourself every day.
What can I do today to make one small change. An example might set aside five minutes today to be with yourself. Five minutes. You could wake up five minutes earlier, or go to sleep five minutes later. You could decide that each day when you take your lunch break that five minutes will be just for you.
Stick with this change. Make it an integral part of your day. Plan what you will do during the five minutes for yourself this week.
And remember to take a few moments every day….
Happy New Year my friends!
“From small beginning come great things”. Beginnings are a chance for us to look at where we would like to go, what we would like to do and how we would like to get there. What would you like to acheive this year? What is your goal?
Here are a few suggestions to questions that can help you define your goal:
What have I always dreamed of?
What is really important to me?
What would I like to acheive in my lifetime?
As you think about these questions, try to think about a specific goal that you would like to acheive in the next three months. How will you feel when you acheive that goal? Close your eyes and be in the moment of acheiving that goal. What color comes to mind?
Now, take a piece of paper and write down that goal. Be specific, define the goal so that it is something that is real and that you will be able to achieve. Read the sentence out loud. How does it sound? Close your eyes and feel yourself achieving your goal. Open your eyes and write down the goal one more time. This is your personal goal. Hang the piece of paper somewhere where you will see it clearly a few times a day.
This is a small beginning, and it can lead to great things to come.
Next, make a list of tasks that you think that you will need to do to achieve
More on my next post.
Wishing you a wonderful and happy year.
Remember to Dream!
If you could give yourself one perfect day, what would it include?
Close your eyes and think about this. Take a cleansing breath. Let it out. What would the first thing that you would do on this perfect day. Would it be sunny out or would it be cold and rainy? Think about where you are. Who is with you? Are you by yourself? What are your plans for the day?
Think about what you would do, where you would go. Take your time and plan the day. Be in the moment, let your imagination go. This is your gift to yourself, so let yourself enjoy.
This gift is for you. Take this small gift of a perfect day with you in your mind this week.
In the hectic and sometimes confusing times in my life I find that taking a few minutes at the end of each day and looking back on the day really helps me to focus on the good around me.
I want to suggest that you do the same every day.
Here’s how it’s done:
Everyday for a week write down the following:
- Three good things that I did today
- Three good things that happened to me today
- Five things that I am grateful for
- Five good qualities of mine
It may seem like a simple thing, but there are days that we have to really try hard to write these things down. It’s about reminding yourself and understanding that there are good things which surround you. Practice with this list and soon your thinking process begins to change and so brings light into your life.
Have a wonderful week!
are an integral part of who we are. Beliefs are unconscious and we act according to
them without thinking. That seems a bit far-fetched, but very true. When we
believe something, we don’t question if the belief is true or not. We stand up
for our beleifs,
knowing inside that we are right. As children we learn from our environment. A
cute example of this – one of my teachers, who I truely respect, told us this
a child her parents had told her that she needed to eat the last bite of food
on her plate because “the last bite has the most vitamins”. She is an
extremely intelligent woman and yet when her first child was playing with his
food, she found herself saying the same thing. One day her child came home for
lunch and said “we learned about vitamins today in school and the last
bite doesn’t have any more vitamins than the first”. Shocked, she stopped
and thought about that for a minute and realized what she had been saying to
For the first time, I
really sat down and made a list of some of my beliefs and was shocked. Where
did this come from? Who put that thought in my heard.
Most of all I learned
that we can change beliefs that are holding us back from our dreams. The
process is not always an easy one, as I discovered, but the outcome is
I invite you to make a
list of things that you believe.
